Former president’s son faced with different charges

Former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma started the month July going in and out of courts for different charges.

Duduzane was briefly detained at the OR Tambo International airport after landing the on Thursday evening, the 5th of July 2018. However after Hawks officers confirmed his identity following his arrival at 20:30 he was released.

On Monday, the 9th of July 2018, Zuma appeared in the Johannesburg Specialized Commercial Crimes court. He was with corruption, alternatively conspiracy to commit corruption.

The charges stem from allegations that Ajay Gupta made an R600m offer to former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas in his presence. Gupta allegedly offered Jonas the position of finance minister at the family’s Saxon world compound. Jonas claimed he refused the offer. The state alleges that Zuma was a party to the crime because he was present. However his appearance was over almost as it started and magistrate Jeremy Jansen Van Vuuren released him on R100 000 bai abs the case was postponed to January 2019.

Zuma then appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s court on a count of culpable homicide on Thursday, the 12th of July 2018.. The case involves the death of Phumzile Dube after he crashed his Posrche into a minibus taxi on the Grayston Drive off-ramp on the M1, north of Johannesburg in2 014. Phumzile Dube was instantly killed and 3 were injured. The case was postponed to August 2013 for disclosure of inquest proceedings and content of the docket.
